Campaign for an English Parliament

CEP News Blog

The dust is still settling on last week’s general election and we still don’t know what the future holds for England.

None of the LibLabCon parties has an English manifesto, an English wing of their party or any policy that promises to make England an equal partner in the UK.

Gordon Brown remains in charge of the British government and de-facto English First Minister despite never having contested and won an election as leader of the Labour Party and potential Prime Minister.  More importantly, England elected the Conservatives with a large majority and we are once again ruled by a Labour government that is propped up by MPs elected in Scotland and Wales.

David Cameron is desperately trying to do a deal with Nick Clegg who is talking to both the Tories and Labour about a coalition.  The Tories managed to keep their sole Scottish MP but utterly failed to increase their numbers in Scotland as they had expected (rather optimistically) to do.  This lack of mandate in Scotland has led the SNP to threaten to break their self-imposed ban on voting on English legislation.

The Lib Dems have no majority in England, Scotland or Wales but will almost certainly be in a position of power in the next few days.

None of the parties have a mandate to govern the UK alone.  The Tories have no mandate in Scotland and Labour and the Lib Dems have no mandate in England.  Only a Conservative-Labour coalition can claim a mandate across the UK and hell will freeze over before that happens.

The only way to sort this mess out in a democratic way is to create a devolved English Parliament and hold fresh elections for both a federal British and devolved English Parliament.

The 3 main parties know that if a rainbow coelition was constructed under Labour this would put massive strain on the UK Union, especially after the last 13 years of discrimination and predudice we’ve had. Various TV chats have reported that the English will not tolerate it, even the former home secretary Mr John Reid alluded to it in a TV interview last night.
So, as the CEP mention The only way to sort this mess out in a democratic way is to create a devolved English Parliament and hold fresh elections for both a federal British and devolved English Parliament.

The most frustrating thing for me about the media coverage is that in talking about a LibLab coalition none of them refer to the fact that in order to govern England Scottish MPs would have to vote in all cases in order to achieve a majority. Surely someone should ask the question of Labour and the Lib Dems. You might expect the Tories to ask the question but they seem strangely silent.

Of course this is not an English election but a UK election. A mandate in England is not required for a UK election of course. A Con-Lib alliance would be best even if neither have a mandate in Scotland or Wales, there are quite a few Liberals in Scotland and Wales to give a fair deal for all the nations of the UK.

An English Parliament would be good, but the result would also be a Con-Lib alliance as the Conservatives only gained 39% of the English vote.

It looks like the Scottish Danny Alexander is considering an Assembly for us here in England. How ironic it would be if we owe the creation of an English Assembly to a Scotsman! It certainly should put the Celtophobes to shame.

If this blog was covered in the daily media, England would have an English Gov within days, this is why they keep it out of the English daily media. The English are not wanted, we are not in their plans or are we.

P.S IF YOU HAVE TO ASK what plans, the plan on keeping the foot on the English head and keeping it down in the mud but the English head will rise, they may be dirty faces but we will brush our selves down and start all over again, Like the English always do.

With one MP in Scotland, the Conservatives can hardly make a claim to the right of governance over Scotland, however, we’re stuck with them North of the Border for the time being
