The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, flew the Scottish flag from the town hall yesterday to mark St Andrews Day.
The flag was up most of the day before being ripped down by the wind.
The wrath of a supernatural being? The ghost of St George hacking it down with his dragon slaying sword? Or was it just nature doing its thing?
Either way it’s a sign that the Scottish flag has no place flying over England’s capital.

I always said that God was an Englishman and now I’ve been proved right.
December 1st, 2009 at 11:32 amOn a more serious note it shows the contempt with which we the English are treated by the Westminster Village.
London members should now bombard the guy with letters of complaint and demand an apology!
Ah! but the Scots are certain to fly the CoG over Holyrood on April 23rd!
Yeah right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
December 1st, 2009 at 1:33 pmHypocritical to say the least.
December 1st, 2009 at 8:51 pmWhat does anyone think about the new UKIP leader Lord Pearson? Is he Scottish?
December 2nd, 2009 at 9:02 amScottish and with his ’snout in the trough’ allegedly
December 2nd, 2009 at 1:41 pmHave you noticed just how often Party Leaders just happen to be Scottish? (Or at least, not English).
The most recent examples, in reverse chronological order:
LABOUR
Gordon Brown (Scottish)
Tony Blair (Scottish)
John Smith (Scottish)
Neil Kinnock (Welsh)
LIBERAL DEMOCRAT
Nick Clegg (Dutch mother, half-Russian father, Spanish wife, sees himself as “European”, which is fair enough, but…)
Menzies Campbell (Scottish)
Charles Kennedy (Scottish)
Paddy Ashdown (Irish)
David Steel/Roy Jenkins (Scottish/Welsh)
CONSERVATIVE
David Cameron (quote: “There’s plenty of Scottish blood in these veins”, actually half-Scottish, but those are his sympathies)
Michael Howard (Welsh)
Ian Duncan-Smith (Scottish)
William Hague (English, but regularly vilified for having an unsuitable Yorkshire, i.e. English accent)
And of course the SNP, Plaid Cymru, Respect, DUP, UUP, SDLP and so on also don’t have English leaders.
You wouldn’t think we were 84% of the population would you?
Because we never seem to be allowed the top jobs….
December 2nd, 2009 at 3:49 pmMust be something in the water
December 2nd, 2009 at 9:42 pmBut lets not forget that it’s the ignorant English electorate and party members that bloody vote for them, sorry to say we deserve everything that we get.
December 3rd, 2009 at 10:41 amEnd of!
So there is no point voting for UKIP either? Another party gone Scottish?
December 6th, 2009 at 2:41 pmAbsolutely right Steve, No point at all, looks like were left with the English Democrats?
The other option is to vote tactically, in the hope of at least unseating the present shower, the object being, to force the Scots to vote for independence, and who has the best chance of pulling that off, think about it!
