George Monbiot, the environmentalist and left wing political activist, has told the Plaid Cymru conference that an English Parliament is necessary to England a voice and spoke in support of a federal UK.
English nationalism in general and support for an English Parliament in particular is often incorrectly seen as a right wing ideology. Monbiot’s support for an English Parliament is proof that even Guardian commentators are awake to the injustice of the present constitutional arrangements.

This is great news. George Monbiot has been castigated in the past for saying “England means nothing to me”.
He repeats this on his website but states that an English Parliament is necessary, and should be supported by anyone interested in democracy. It’s great that some are recognising that you don’t need to be a nationalist to want an English Parliament.
Well done George! In return, we’ll campaign to have your patron saint’s day recognised as a public holiday …it’s the least we can do.
