The leaders of the Campaign for an English Parliament will stage a mini demonstration on the 31st August 2011 at 5.30pm outside the David Hume Institute on George Street, Edinburgh
English campaigners say “Give us a hug” to Scottish Secretary of State
After many failed attempts to get Nick Clegg and the Coalition to discuss the English Question, the Campaign for an English Parliament (CEP) has decided to raise the issue where their voice is most likely to be heard – in Scotland!
Michael Moore, the Scottish Secretary of State, is discussing Scottish devolution on the 31st August 2011. Commencement will be 6.30pm at the David Hume Institute on George St, Edinburgh. It will be entitled “Empowering our nation, reaching our potential, the future of Scottish devolution.
There will be a mini demonstration outside the Institute by the Campaign for an English Parliament. The protest is planned to go ahead at 5.30pm to highlight the failings of Mr Moore’s Coalition government in implementing the agreement to set up a commission that will examine the solutions to the West Lothian question. The British Government is ignoring English concerns and will not discuss the need for English self governance in England. Hopefully the MP for Berwickshire, Roxburgh and Selkirk will also apologise for voting to impose tuition fees on English students while his own constituents remained unaffected. Hopefully he will feel ashamed of his part in tramping over the students of England. Also, would he now agree that all Scottish MPs including Liberal Democrats should not vote on English only matters?
The only thing that appears to be missing from the information given about Mr Moore’s speech is a ‘Scottish group hug’. The CEP wants to join in with the group hug but how can it when Mr Moore’s actions show he does not care about England. We want ‘Moore’ for England not less. Mr Moore needs to find the courage to commit the Liberal Democrats to an English Parliament. Nick Clegg’s refusal to discuss the West Lothian question is becoming dangerous to the Union and is damaging the future of English communities. The Liberal Democrats refusal to discuss democratic accountability now just presents as Conservative Unionist denial. It appears that the Liberal Democrats just don’t care about England but care more about coalition government.
Eddie Bone, Chairman of the CEP states “British MPs refusal to discuss the legitimate concerns identified by the Campaign for an English Parliament is obviously causing damage to the future prospects of English communities. The concerns of England’s citizens have been ignored for far too long and England has been left out of the devolution discussion to her detriment. Mr Moore needs to remember that the English have a right to democratic equality as well.” Eddie Bone Chairman of the CEP also said “If England is not included when discussing devolution then Scottish Independence and the break up of the Union will be as inevitable as day follows night because the tolerant English will eventually have had enough”. Mr Bone was keen to point out that “The CEP embraces Scottish devolution and encourages the Scottish people to support the English in following the Scottish example of national democracy”.
